prečo potrebujeme zázrak

Začiatkom apríla pred osemnástimi rokmi sme sa vyše dvoch hodín zhovárali s naším vzácnym členom kardinálom Korcom. Bol to jeden z mnohých rozhovorov, ktoré sme spolu mali od novembra 1989. roka do jari roku 2014. Názory kardinála Korca mali pri našom "miléniovom" stretnutí charakter posolstva občanom a zodpovedným za vývoj ich štátu. Sú platné, a teda aktuálne aj dnes. Dodnes nikto zo súčasníkov tak jasne nevyjadril, že sme "mimo" a spoločnosť dnes došla do všestrannej a napohľad do neprekonateľnej krízy.

" ... Niežeby tu nebolo nič dobré. V podstate máme slobodu, môžeme hovoriť, môžeme tvoriť. Lenže so slobodou sme sa nenaučili narábať. Hovorí sa všetko možné, aj sa píše, aj sa kritizuje, aj sa navrhuje. Ale vzniká priam chaos názorov, mienok, skupín. A trhové hospodárstvo nielen uvoľnilo energiu jednotlivcov a skupín, ale ich začalo aj kaziť. Začali triumfovať peniaze ako také, nie podnikateľská služba ...

Príčiny neúspechov? Okrem zlyhávania ľudí, okrem chamtivosti, ktorá sa mnohých zmocnila, sú tu aj veci, ktoré sme predsa len aj zdedili. Aj rozleptané charaktery, aj devastovaná morálka. Naozaj si aj ja myslím spolu s vami, že nijaký život národa, nijaké hospodárstvo nie sú možné bez duchovného ľudského rozvoja, bez rozvoja úcty k človeku, k rodine, k národu a štátu, bez úcty k svedomiu a morálke, bez solídnej výchovy k opravdivým hodnotám ...".

Už začiatkom storočia bol kardinál Korec, jedna z najvýraznejších osobností slovenského národa a vôbec celej spoločnosti znepokojený z toho, kde sme vtedy boli ako spoločnosť. Ako čas plynul, tak jeho znepokojenie z prehlbujúceho sa marazmu bolo aj v jeho prípade spojené s morálnou, či skôr duchovnou a celkovou  podporou ľudí schopných návratu k pôvodným cieľom z rokov 1988 - 1990.

"... Neviem, kedy kto vysvetlí, čo sa u nás a s nami stalo po roku 1990. Máte pravdu, že národ i národnosti, teda Slovensko a jeho ľudia sa zapálili za obnovu života v tých oblastiach, ktoré boli zatlačené do úzadia naše stáročné tradície a možnosti osobného uplatnenia každého človeka, prípadne skupín ľudí. Ale je pravda aj to, že mnoho ľudí stálo akosi bokom a boli dosť dlho pasívni. Študenti a inteligencia, ktorí stáli na čele zmien, akoby naraz nevedeli, čo robiť po zmenách v novom poriadku života. Študenti starli a mnohí inteligenti sa začali starať o seba. Noví politici nemali skúsenosti, prejavila sa príslovečná slovenská žiarlivosť, zhon za pozíciami, osobné spory, možno závislosti spoza hraníc. Národné povedomie, sotva sa začalo prebúdzať z pridusenia, začal ktosi znova dusiť. Zvnútra či zvonka? Školy duchovne stagnovali, spisovatelia sa začali deliť na takmer antagonistické skupiny, Cirkvi len pomaly dávali dohromady zvyšky síl, ktoré im zostali, mládež sa dostala pod paľbu nových, v mnohom negatívnych prúdov v kultúre, v televízii. Časopisy začal napodobňovať bulvárne maniery cudziny, uvoľňovala sa morálka, slobodu začali mnohí chápať ako všetko je dovolené. A to sa prejavilo aj v hospodárskom živote, v privatizácii, v honbe za ziskom. Ocitli sme sa tam, kde sme."

Netreba splietať hodnotenia toho, čo sme vykonali, ako konáme, viazať kritiku do vencov a pripravovať sa na pohreb našich najčlovečenskejších predstáv, snov a plánov. Možno to má byť tak, že sme pomalší v zmenách, ktoré potrebujeme, a bez ktorých neuspejeme v konkurencii iných národov a ich štátov. Alebo sme do takej pozície tlačení "zvonka" a to aj s pomocou domácich ľudkov, ktorí sa ulakomili obrazne na judášsky groš, či na všakovaké pozlátka.

"Už dávno som vnímal život u nás na Slovensku, ale aj inde vo svete ako život v čase-nečase, uprostred pľúšte, víchrice a búrok. Problémov naozaj neubúda a cesty k ich riešeniu sú naozaj čoraz kľukatejšie ako v minulosti. Ako sa s tým všetkým vyrovnať a čo programuje robiť Cirkev V 19. storočí sa niektorým zdalo, že národom bude stačiť pre šťastnejší život len viac mydla, čistý vzduch a trochu viac vzdelania. A že každá nová škola vytlačí jednu väznicu. Mydla sa vyrába viac než potrebujeme, škôl tiež riadne pribudlo. Ale väzníc nie je menej! A vzduch je stále viac znečistený. A znečistená je aj pôda, aj voda, a sú tu ozónové diery z plynu tovární a áut, sú aj nové choroby. A objavila sa aj pohroma drog a teroristi, zločinecké mafie riadené vysokoškolsky vzdelanými lotrami.

Život je zložitejší, než sa zdal pred sto rokmi. Valia sa na nás vlny najzvrátenejších názorov, pre ktoré sa boja rodičia o svoje deti, starí rodičia o svojich vnukov. Týka sa to dôstojnosti človeka, rodiny ako základu spoločnosti, týka sa to opravdivej lásky, zdravého rozvoja národa. Mnohí ľudia sa priam zvrhávajú. Aj u nás sa už strieľa za bieleho dňa. Ukázalo sa, že viac mydla nám nestačí. Ani viac škôl. Človek, rodina, národ i štát potrebujú ešte čosi viac. Potrebujú vedieť, či je celý svet len náhoda, či sa vynoril len z ničoty, či smeruje k ničote, či jestvuje dobro a zlo, či život podlý bude raz hodnotený tak ako život obetavý, ...".

Aj v týchto dňoch je to tak. Nech sa doterajšie vlády nadúvali a nemenej ich protivníci, nech sa súčasná vláda naďalej nadúva a nemenej jej opozícia, tak výsledok je jednoznačný : potrebujeme menší zázrak, ktorý by nám vyniesol do najzodpovednejších pozícií osobnosti odborne zdatné, národu oddané, občanmi uznávané, predovšetkým za ich doterajšie pracovné výsledky, názory a postoje, ako aj život.

Možnosť takého zázraku podporuje fakt, že máme u nás dosť výnimočných osobností schopných aj pripravených postarať sa o novú "slovenskú jar". Takých, ktorým je jasné, že treba reštart spoločnosti. A pokiaľ sa možní lídri nepreberú k životu, a nepochopia zodpovednosť za to, čo je a čo by sa malo stať, tak sa staneme vazalmi vlastnej malosti, hlúposti, seba ľúbosti a z toho plynúceho nadúvania sa v akomsi automatickom režime. Ak aj niekto má námietky k jeho myšlienkam, splňme aspoň jeho prianie, tak dobre sa hodiace na dnešnú dobu : "Urážky píšte do piesku, dobrodenia do mramoru."

Some thoughts addressed to believers as well as people without religion on why we need a miracle
Restart of society

At the beginning of April, eighteen years ago, we had a discussion with our honoured member Cardinal Korec for more than two hours. It was one of the many talks we had together from November 1989 to the spring of 2014. During our "millennium" meeting, Cardinal Korec's views bore a message to citizens and those who were responsible for the development of their country. These thoughts are still valid and, hence, relevant today. To this day, none of our contemporaries has made such a clear statement that we are "out" and that society has now arrived at a general and seemingly insurmountable crisis.

"... It is not the case that there was nothing good here. In principle, we have freedom, we can talk, we can create. However, we have not learned to handle freedom. All sorts of speeches are made, all sorts of things are written, all sorts of criticism are made, all sorts of proposals are submitted. The consequence being that there is truly chaos of opinions, views, groups. The market economy has not only released the energy of individuals and groups, but it has also started to spoil them. Money as such has started to triumph over business service...

"Causes of failure? In addition to the failure of people, in addition to greed which got hold of many of us, there are also things we have, nevertheless, inherited. Corroded characters, as well as devastating morals. Indeed, I, like you, also believe that no nation's life, no economy can make it without human spiritual progress, without the development of respect for human beings, the family, the nation and the country, without respect for conscience and morality, without solid raising with true values..."

Already as early as the beginning of the century, Cardinal Korec, one of the most prominent personalities of the Slovak nation and the entire society, was worried about where we as society stood then. As time passed by, his worries about the deepening moral decay were associated with moral or rather spiritual and overall support to people capable of returning to the original goals of 1988-1990, also in his case.

"... I do not know who will ever explain what happened here and with us after 1990. You are right that the nation and national minorities, that is Slovakia and its people, became enthusiastic about the revival of life in those areas where our centuries-old traditions and the possibilities of personal fulfilment of every person or group of people were pushed to the background. But it is also true that many people stood somehow aside and were passive for a rather long time. Students and intelligentsia who were at the forefront of the change, seemed suddenly not to know what to do after the changes in the new order of life. The students were ageing, and many of the intelligentsia started to take care of themselves. New politicians had no experience, proverbial Slovak jealousy, rush after ranks, personal disputes, perhaps dependencies from behind the borders came to the surface.

National awareness, which barely started to wake up from suffocation, was again choked by someone. From inside or outside? Schools stagnated spiritually, writers began to split into almost antagonistic groups, the Churches were only slowly gathering the remaining power, the youth got under the fire of new, often negative streams of culture, on television. Magazines began to emulate foreign tabloids, morals loosened, many began to understand freedom as everything being allowed. And that was also reflected in economic life, in privatization, in pursuit of profit. And we have arrived at where we stand now."

One should not weave assessment of what we have done, the criticism to wreaths and prepare oneself for the funeral of our most humane visions, dreams and plans. Perhaps it should be so that we are slower in the changes we need and without which we will fail in the competition with other nations and their countries. Or we are pushed into that position "from the outside", even with the help of domestic folks who have, figuratively speaking, desired to appropriate Judas money or superficial glamour.

"I have perceived the life here in Slovakia and also elsewhere in the world as life in times of bad weather, in the middle of sleety weather, gales and storms. The trouble does really not get less, and the paths to addressing it are truly increasingly more tortuous than in the past. How to deal with all this and what the Church is planning to do? In the 19th century, some people thought that it would be enough for a happier life of people to have more soap, clean air and a little more education. And that every new school will force out one prison. The quantity of soap produced today is more than we need and there are also more schools by now. However, prisons are not less! The air is getting increasingly more polluted as well. The soil and the water are also polluted, and there are ozone holes as a result of gas emissions from factories and cars, and there are also new diseases. And the plague of drugs and terrorists, criminal mafias run by college-educated crooks has emerged.

Life is more complex than it seemed some hundred years ago. We have been flooded by waves of the most perverted views which make the parents worried about their children, grandparents about their grandchildren. It involves the dignity of man, family as the foundation of society; it involves the true love, healthy development of the nation. Many people degenerate. Even in our country, shooting already takes place in the full daylight. It turned out that more soap is not enough for us. Neither more schools. Man, family, nation and the country need more. They need to know whether the whole world is just a coincidence, whether it came out of nothingness, whether it goes to nothingness, whether there is good and evil, whether wicked life will be once valued as a self-sacrificing life..."

All this is also the case today. Regardless of how much the former governments gave themselves airs and their opponents, too, regardless of how much the current government continues to put on airs and their opposition, too, the result is clear: we need a small miracle that would bring able persons committed to the nation, respected by the people especially for their past work results, opinions and stances as well as life to the most responsible posts.

The possibility of such a miracle is supported by the fact that in our country, we have enough exceptional personalities capable and ready to take care of the new "Slovak spring". Such ones who know that we need a restart of our society. Unless the possible leaders awake to life and take responsibility for what is and what should happen, we will become vassals of our own smallness, stupidity, self-pity and the resulting putting on airs in a sort of automatic mode. Even if some may object his thoughts, let us at least fulfil his wish so fit for the present day: "Write the insults into the sand and good turns into the marble."
